This workshop explores traditional darning techniques to repair holes in your garments and also encourages us to share stories and rethink our relationship with our clothes.

We will begin by looking at some examples of visible mending, and Bronwen will share a brief history of darning and its modern relevance, exploring the sentimental and environmental value of repair and furthering her interest in textiles as containers of stories. Next, she will demonstrate some darning techniques, and we will practice mending together.

You are welcome to bring a holey/thinning/stained textile. However, darning is best on knitted and medium/thick woven textiles — such as a sweater, scarves, socks, and blankets. It is easiest to begin practicing on a thicker knit like a chunky sweater, but bring what you have, and we can discuss repair options.)

Materials will be provided, and there will be scrap fabric to practice on. No experience is necessary!
